Kumiko

Kumiko is the term for the refined lattice work on the sliding doors, shoji (papered screen doors) and decorative transoms of a traditional Japanese style room.  It is made of many wooden bars crossed and laid to form various designs and expressions. No nails or metal pieces are used, and the wooden parts are put together by adjusting grooves and angles to precisely fit together into a specific pattern.
